Samael - Above (2009)

Desde sus inicios, Samael ha sido una banda que ha evolucionado de un Black Metal crudo, blasfemo y agresivo de mediados de los 90's a una mezcla de Industrial Dark Metal que basa sus sonidos en sintetizadores y sonidos electronicos, al parecer con este nuevo album tienen un regreso a sus raices metaleras. Segun entrevistas recientes Vorph señala que "Above" es el enlace perdido entre Ceremony of Opposites y Passage que es el punto donde iniciaron con el experimento entre metal y sonidos electronicos

En un inicio este album fue pensado como un proyecto alterno de la banda, aunque con musica y letras de Samael. Conforme lo fueron creando el gusto por él les hizo pensar en sacarlo como nuevo material.

En si el album es bueno, regresa Xy a la bateria incluyendo aun algunos efectos electronicos - aunque minimos-, Vorph se nota un poco disminuido en las vocales pero todavia le da el el toque de Black Metal Voice, riffs agresivos y algunos efectos atmosfericos le dan un excelente sonido melodico. El unico detalle extraño es la enorme similitud entre el track 8 llamado "Dark Side" con el tema "The Black Face" de su primer album "Worship Him".
